Music TopicToday’s band of the day is
Jill Sobule
. You may have heard her one hit, “I Kissed a
Girl”. That’s a great song, but she is about much more than that. I
saw her open for Warren Zevon a year or two back and she put on a
great show, just her and her guitar. I hadn’t checked on her website
in a few months, and when I went back today, I see that she has really
beefed up her MP3
download page
. Wow! On top of that, she has a song called “Mexican
Wrestler” about wanting to put on the mask and become someone else
(and beat up a truculent lover.) I love it.

Tonight is the night, Sonic
Youth
is playing at the Variety Playhouse. I
believe we’ll be making a Little 5
Points
night of it. First, we’ll be eating at The Vortex (where I
will get a “Ragin’ Cajun” burger not unlike what I used to eat in
Lafayette), then we will browse and shop at
Criminal Records
where I’ll be looking for an album by yesterday’s band of the day, The Gentle Readers. I might
also pick up the graphic novel of Road to Perdition
while I am there. After that, Darlene heads home and I go to rock at
SY. I would have liked it if she wanted to go as well, but she
really didn’t. Part of the deal was that for my birthday celebration,
I go to the show and for her’s, she doesn’t have to go to the
show. Sounds like a pretty good evening to me anyway.
