One of the things I had done quite regularly for a long time was to
rate books at AlexLit. The
recommendation thing is really cool and for me has been remarkably
accurate. It is a collaborative filter that works by finding people
whose tastes are like yours and then using that to predict your
tastes. For a while, I thought they were going to really jump out as a
powerhouse ebook retailer but that part never really seemed to get the
attention from them that the filter did. It’s the first place I ever
gave money for an eBook, the same day I bought my first Handspring
Visor. I highly recommend (no pun intended) checking it out.

Kevin, my old buddy from my days in Kansas brought this to my
attention.
Random House, Rosetta End Quarrel Over E-Books

A snippet from it:

Random House has settled its lawsuit against RosettaBooks over
Rosetta’s sales of electronic versions of eight popular titles,
including Kurt Vonnegut’s “Cat’s Cradle” and William Styron’s
“Sophie’s Choice.” Rosetta will continue to publish the disputed
works and will work with Random House on bringing additional titles to
the e-book market. “We are very glad to be able to put our differences
behind us and to now work collaboratively rather than combatively to
enhance RosettaBooks’ and our commitment to electronic publishing,”
said Random House senior VP Katherine J. Trager.

Here’s a funny one, a quiz to determine Which Science Fiction Writer Are
You?
In case anyone was wondering, I came out as William
Gibson. Seems about right to me. I saw a post from the guy who wrote
it, so I know he actually did try to calibrate this. I suspect many of
these type quizzes to just randomly assign the answers, although I
know this one does not.

Today is hump day, and I am the hump. I’m still kind of logey and
unmotivated. I don’t really want to do much of anything.

Here’s a goofy thing I found years ago at the Intertrust Portland
offices. A bunch of guys were gathered around a monitor cackling like
fools, and they were looking at the Phone Bashing Site. It’s guys
dressed like giant phones smashing cell phones. What could be better?
