We’re getting towards the release of The Two Towers
and I must again admit that while I will probably go see it, I’m just
not freakishly excited about it. A guy at work is organizing an
expedition to opening night and has bought something like 30 or 40
tickets via Fandango or something like that. If I go see it, it will
be at least a month after it opens. No way in hell am I going to see
it with the people who MUST see it opening weekend. I’d rather let
those folks get it out of their system before I brave the theater. I
felt the same thing but stronger for the Star Wars movies – I haven’t
seen Episodes I or II and have no particular plans to ever see
them. Last year, I was far more excited about The Royal
Tenenbaums
than Lord of the Rings. This year
it’s Autofocus, Adaptation, and
Confessions of a Dangerous Mind that interest me more
than a LOTR movie.

I’m not sure why, but I’m having a hard time getting into the swing of
the XMas season. I don’t feel very cheery, I don’t feel like shopping
for my family and I don’t really want anyone to get me anything. I’m
finding that the obligatory nature of forced goodwill is getting me
down.
