Refer Madness

Ripped from today’s access_log, Kathryn Cramer writes about refer spam, and ultimately links to this article about it. I got some of this crap today for two different porn sites. I responded by putting the ip address block of the refer spambot in my .htaccess files and manually deleting them from that data file that builds my list. This stuff seems to take constant vigilance. It helps that I am a spaz for my dynamic referer list, and always check out sites I don’t recognize. Cue Gibson, “the street finds its own uses for things.” Who would think that the content of the HTTP request would be such a hotbed of scumbag activity?
