Agile Bridge Building

Here’s a satirical site poking fun of agile development/XP methodology by presenting a story of extreme bridge building. It gave me a laugh, but one of my coworkers correctly pointed out that it is pretty much arguing with a straw man. True enough, but then so do most agile booster argue with the straw man of “wasteful design that does irrelevant work.” It ain’t like the XP detractors invented straw men (via extensive unnecessary UML diagrams), so it’s nice to see what does around coming around. My gut feeling is that in a decade the prevailing sentiment will be that XP was an interesting fad with a few good ideas but as an end-to-end philosophy is not viable in the long term.
