iTunes 4.9 Walks the Earth

Phil Torrone notes that he is seeing iTunes 4.9 hitting his RSS feed. I am too. Note to you Apple engineers: you are using the Bittorrent feed and seem to not be getting anywhere. Try using the direct MP3 feed and you’ll have better results.

Update: Cool, TUAW picked up on this. Just to clarify, it’s not that iTunes is gakking on the feed, it’s that it downloads the feed and then never requests the torrent files. I assume that is because it doesn’t recognize them as needing downloading, not being audio files and all.

  1. Hmmm… So Apple is testing iTunes 4.9 but not connecting to your MP3 feed, eh? I wonder if that’s a mistake… Or, perhaps that’s a signal that they are folding in torrent support to the podcast service…

And, on an interesting side note, I just had to add “podcast” to my spelling dictionary… 🙂

  2. Hmm. Bittorrent support in iTunes would be interesting. It sure helps a lot with podcasts that get a lot of traffic, and might take a load off apple’s servers. I wonder how soon this will be released.

  3. Dave,
We hacked up our rss2.php file to better support the store. Noticed you’re on wordpress also and might benefit from it, until something better gets worked out.

    Best,

  4. Rob, I appreciate the pointer but there is no way I’m putting any extra bullshit in my feed. I just don’t care. No podcatcher of any kind or any market penetration is going to get me to add specific tags into my RSS just for them. I’m not rolling over for ITMS any more than I’m rolling over for anyone.
