OK, turns out that the dumb bastards at Intertrust have managed to
convince Sony to buy them, just a few days after I made an entry about
them decommissioning the system I
and my team built for them
. The minor windfall I get from this
will defray the cost of a Tivo. I
really want to do some stuff with it, like hook a wireless card and
use the internet rather than a phone line for the program
information. If I can hack and set up the stuff that lets you stream
video, then I could use either my laptop or our desktops to watch
programs. Yowza, how cool! This is going to take a lot of research,
because the newish series 2 models seem pretty cool, but I’m unsure if
they are less hackable. I’d be plenty fine with an older model with a
hard drive upgrade to have, oh, 120+ hours. If anyone reading this has
advice for me, please e-mail
me
your input.

I just realized my Handspring Visor’s time is still off by an hour
since Daylight Savings Time. I’m going to give this
automatic clock setter thing a try
. When I was syncing to my Mac,
there was a conduit only program that would update the time on every
sync. That’s really what I want, a conduit that just updates the time
without a thing needed on the Palm side. Hell, I might try to write
one myself if I don’t like this one.

I really don’t know what All Saint’s Day is about, but today is
it. Way to go, saints. Stay beatific, homeys.

Ended up doing nothing last night, no shows, minimal trick or
treaters, no costumes. We watched a Sopranos episode, and I dropped
off DVD #3.3 at Blockbuster and rented #3.4, the last one of season
3. After a few days, we have a year to wait for season 4. I also got
some pumpkin gelatto at J. Ripples for my wife, who was jonesing for
something pumpkiny to get in the Halloween spirit. We bought a pint,
and I can’t eat mine until free day tomorrow. Can’t wait.
