I need someone to explain something about world affairs to me. Because
we suspect Iraq has a nuclear weapons program, it is of utmost
importance that we invade them. We the American public can’t be told
why, but this is so. North Korea publicly admits they have a nuclear
weapons program and White House officials are adamant that this can be
resolved diplomatically. What the fuck sense does this make? I find
our current foreign policy to be unbelievably hypocritical and I
cannot believe that President Bush and Vice President Cheney and Colin
Powell can look anyone in the eye whilst saying this nonsensical horseshit.

I do believe I’m done shopping at Staples, at the very least for CD
media and maybe for everything. Near where I work is a Target and a
Staples in the same complex. I price shopped both, and the same pack
of 50 blank Memorex was $14.99 at Target and $24.99 at Staples. In
fact, the 25 pack of plastic CD sleeves was $9.99 at Staples. I ended
up getting a 10 pack of jewel cases for $2.99 at Target. That’s
right, the sleeves were more expensive at Staples than the jewel cases
(or even the CDs themselves) at Target.
I needed these to make those Warren Zevon CD tree things. Last night,
I realized based on a Usenet post that I have a CD with a 3 second gap
between every track. This really sounds like ass in a live bootleg, so
I’m going to have to use SoundForge to remove that, and then recreate
the CD. Thus, it will be this weekend or later before I have the CDs
ready to mail. I still have slots for giveaways, so mail me if you
want one. I’m not going to make any Usenet posts offering up any of
these until I have them all burned and ready to go. No since in being
upside down on this.

I’m listening to the appearance of Bruce
Sterling and Robert Weinberg on Talk of the Nation yesterday. As
I’m listening, the current caller is John Kessel. Cool, no? I could
live without the Star Wars theme at the end, but whatever. At least it
was a reasonable show, not full of gaga silliness. I suspect Neil
Conan of being a reader in the genre, as he seemed to know a lot of
the SF specific stuff and could identify writers and such.

Boy, I sure wish I knew why the SSH key authentication suddenly stops
working between some of my systems. With the different formats for
keys, the SSH1 vs. SSH2 discrepancies and such, this really screams
for a good key management tool that will let you generate and/or read
your keys on one box, SSH to another, put the necessary stuff into the
authorized_keys file – transforming it to another format if neccessary
– and then logging in to check the transfer. I looked for such a
creature and couldn’t find it. Maybe it will be incumbent on me to
write it. Seems like it could all be done with the openssh libraries,
which I think I still have on my box at home from the Intertrust
days. Must think about this.

All day yesterday I was filled with the horrifying realization that I
had to go to work the next day. Now I am filled with the shocking and
painful truth that I am at work. If anyone was ever cut out to be a
member of the useless and idle rich, it was me. I can do nothing all
day and never be bored. Why aren’t I rich then? Oh cruel fate!
