I got an email yesterday informing me that Comic Book: the Movie will be out on DVD in January. I must have signed up for this mailing list, although I didn’t remember doing it. This movie looks kind of dumb, but in a fun way. I have to give Mark Hamill credit for always having a good sense of humor about himself and his place in the Hollywood ecosystem. I think his appearance on The Simpsons was the all-time funniest celebrity appearance (John Waters is a close second.) He knows he’s a geek’s actor, he is a funny book geek himself, so why not just wear it all on your sleeve?
Too often, movies set in the comic book world are just kind of embarassing and I hold out hope that this one won’t be. Plus, I just love the title Comic Book: the Movie. That’s automatic comedy.
