Digital Camera Question

I throw this one open to the wisdom of ye who read this blog. I need advice on buying a digital camera. I have a choice of two different cameras, each the same cheap price ($99), each the same manufacturer (Kodak). The differentiation is that one is 2.1 Megapixels but also will record movies with audio, the other is 3.2 Megapixels without any sort of movie capacity. I’m having a hard time deciding between the two. On the one hand, I’m not sure that I’ll use the movie function but also not sure I wouldn’t. Is the difference between 2 and 3 megapixels a big make or break such that I’d regret not getting the 3 when I had the chance? Please leave me a writeback with any advice any of you might have. I’m lost in the digital wilderness on this one.

  1. I have an older Kodak 2 Megapixel and the photo quality is fine. It does have that movie mode, but I’v really only used it to play around. It records into .mov format anyway which is a real pain.

What does annoy about my camera is how long it takes to each picture. If you can, then try take two photos with each camera and see how long it takes.

  2. Daniel,

Thanks for the input. I appreciate it. That’s my big lack of knowledge – will I ever really use the movie function? The whole megapixel thing is kind of abstract to me. I mean, I can do the math and tell that the one has 50% more, but in visual terms will it be that noticeable? This camera is basically taking the place of our (also cheap) snapshot camera, the one you use at holidays and parties. If I went to the photo store and made prints of each, would the one be noticeably grainier than the other. I’m suspecting not.

The nice thing about buying a cheap one is that it allows us to figure out what we do and don’t care about, so we can be more informed next time. If we decide that we really are lacking features important to us, we can get another without worrying about how much we dumped into this one.

  3. I personally would go with the 3.2 megapixels camera. The one I have was a cheapy 2.1 hewlett packard and I am noticing a fair bit of graininess when I take pictures of people. For some reason I don’t fully understand, it doesn’t do that when I take a picture of say, a car. Anyway, the hp camera will take video, but it really isn’t worth it because all you get is snippets for your own enjoyment, nothing really worth sharing because of the enormous file size. Though mine has no audio capabilities so it is somewhat more limited.

  4. Can i recover deleted memery care if i never override with other pic.
I acidently deleted very inportant photos
