NARAS gets in on the act

The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS), the group the puts on the Grammies, has joined the RIAA in the fight against downloads. They have put up their own site What’s the Download. The site is an attempt to be hip, but is about as cool as an undercover cop in a high school trying to talk 3 year old hip-hop lingo. Check out the FAQ Page. I remain convinced this is not about preventing infringing big label downloads but really about reinforcing the current power structure. I see this whole effort as an attempt to put the genie back in the bottle, disempower artists back into requiring the big labels, and reclaiming their roles as the gatekeepers of Big Media Music. Fight the power!
