I’ve notice over the last several weeks a pattern with my Time Warner cable modem. The service gets really slow over some weekends, and then around Monday morning goes back to normal. Right now, it is slow again. I have this lurking suspicion that something is boned in the inner workings of Cisco routers and all that magic, and there is one guy who knows how to fix it. I suspect it stays boned until that one person walks in and flips the one switch or reboots the one piece of equipment and then everything goes back to normal. Can this be? If so, can this wizard train the night and weekend crew what to do? Pretty please.

maybe its just a lot of people using their servers on the weekends?
I had the same issue with my TW connection. It got progressively worse over the course of about a month. I finally called for service. They claimed that I had a weak signal and sent a guy out to have a look. The guy said the signal was fine and gave me a new modem which fixed the problem. I still don’t understand why a bad modem would only be bad on the weekends.
I heard of this syndrome before. Guy I know in a residential area with many kids around would notice a decline in performance shortly after the school bus came through in the afternoon. Would be just fine again later that night once the kids went to bed.
previous comments are accurate dave – think of it as a lan/man/wan issue, and your neighborhood/lan is saturated on weekends (probably a spike in evenings too) based on your neighbors surfing tendancies…
could be twc also as they are setup to throttle themself automatically – at your end, neighborhood headend and regional hub…
especially if they think you’re a bandwidth glutton 😉
and some areas are more optimized than others – which is why some folks have no issues and others see it as a regular pattern…
large metro areas tend to be more optimized than rural too…
so before you sit down to surf on the weekend, open your window and yell out “i’m taking a shower now good neighbors, pls don’t flush until i’m done” 😉
