Here’s some bullet reviews of movies I’ve seen recently. Only one was in the theater, the rest were rentals.
- Meet the Fockers: Bleh. I wish I had slept through it.
- Spanglish: Fantastic film with a warm human story.
- Ocean’s Twelve: Loved the first one (rare remake far superior to the original), thought this sequel was a waste of time and way too wrapped up in cutesiness.
- Napoleon Dynamite: I might be the last person to see this film, but I loved it. I will be quoting silly lines from this film for the rest of my days.
- Anchorman: Couldn’t be stupider and I loved it for it.
- Batman Begins: Holy crap, this rocked!
Dave,
I think you are right on the money. Napolean Dynamite is one of those films that rattles around in your head for a few days. You might forget the plot, which there really wasn’t much of, but I know I get a big smile everytime I see someone wearing a “Vote for Pedro” shirt. Jon Heder (Napoleon) does a great job. Remember “Perdo offers you his protection.” “Yessssss”
As for Anchorman – dumb movie with some fall out of your seat funny scenes. Either it works for you or it doesn’t. “You stay classy, San Diego.”
Meet the Fockers really did suck.
Haven’t seen any of the others…
Batman hasn’t started here yet…so I can’t comment on that!
You liked Anchorman? I just can’t think of one actor from Saturday Night Live who has been in a good movie.
Penny Marshal was talking about “Bewitched” with Will Ferrell recently. That movie was 10 years in the making because they had to get a big name to sell the movie. They got Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell. The premise of this movie is a bit far fetched. Who would believe that Ferrell and Kidman would have a romance?
The fact that they have to get big names to make movies is so wrong that it is nauseating to me and I will not pay to see a major Hollywood studio movie ever with rare exceptions. A movie should be art, not toothpaste!
BATMAN BEGINS…rocked my friggin’ world!
NAPOLEON DYNAMITE…bizarre as hell, and I love it. “GOD! IDIOT!”
OCEAN’S TWELVE…a complete waste of time.
Others of note…
HITCHHIKER’S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY…a fitting tribute to Douglas Adams’ work. Friggin’ loved it!
EPISODE III: Revenge of the Sith…it’s the best of the new three, and that ain’t sayin’ a whole lot.
John Carpenter’s THE THING…saw it last night on STARS. Holy shit, I forgot how Billy Bad Ass that movie is. And the ending — friggin’ terrifying!
And right now, on TNT, GONE IN SIXTY SECONDS…cool little Cage/Bruckheimer film.
