Evil Genius Chronicles Podcast for November 27, 2008 – “Thankful For You”

Here is the direct MP3 download for the EGC clambake for November 27, 2008. I play a song from Camper Van Beethoven; I discuss what I’m thankful for; I talk about the fragile first few minutes of a podcast and how you can lose me in them; I talk about trying and failing to get organized with GTD and how Google and Android phones work into this; I play a breaking story from the Onion Radio News; I talk about how Twitter could have failed to screw up the I Want Sandy acquisition if they thought about it for 3 minutes; I talk about comic books and how they make the nerd in me really happy; I play a Siderunners song and then put myself in the oven for 3 to 5 hours.

Hey Dave. Look forward to hearing this, but did you realise that the podcast shown in the itunes directory only lists episodes up to May 31st? If you subscribe it picks up the latest episodes, but thats no good if you want to download the latest episode on an iPod Touch or iPhone (as I just tried to do).
It looks like its reading the directmp3.xml feed, rather than the podcast.xml one you use now.
Anything you can do to sort that?

  2. dave says:

Dom, I just opened up iTunes, went to my show subscription and it was there. I unsubscribed, searched for me in the iTunes store and resubscribed. It picked up the most recent show and started downloading automatically. I’m not sure what to tell you. Maybe the iTunes UK store is boned. Would I be able to file a ticket with them on that?

  3. dave says:

PS – directmp3.xml is just a symlink to the other file now. They are the same thing.

This is what I’m seeing in iTunes – http://twitpic.com/onki
However subscribing does pick up all the latest shows. Perhaps the UK stuff is screwed.

I was gonna put “Ken Baker” in the Name field, but I didn’t want to spend time in comment moderation purgatory. Anyhow, great show. With the Siderunners, it’s hard to miss.

“wobaker” is for W.O. Baker, who legend has it, was an obstacle to Dennis Ritchie in the early days of Unix development. I don’t know the definitive answer to that, but there *was* a Unix fortune that said:

“Who is W. O. Baker, and why is he saying those terrible things about me?”

And, we’re thankful for you. Keep it up!

  6. From what I’ve read, the G1 is to be avoided as a primary phone – the battery won’t last a full day of use and it lacks even the most basic polish that normal phones have.

The google integration is reportedly fantastic though, so maybe the next Android phone will be better. I’m still sticking with my iPhone 🙂

Just listening again to the podcast. Just to jump in, currently the G1 android phone doesn’t have built in access to Google docs. You can view them through the web browser, but there is no direct editing facility. Of course between now and April, that could easily change.
