This is a little weird - for once I'm telnetted in to my Linux box from the Mac. I'm working on my father-in-law's old computer that was given to him. We were setting it up for him while we were visiting and it went dead while we were there. This actually wasn't so bad - much better than doing it while we weren't there. We threw it in the trunk and brought it home. Today I went and bought and old Windows 95 install disk (that's what was already on it and being an old 486 I didn't feel like pushing the enveloped - what was on it gets reinstalled.)

As these things often go, it has been steps forward and backwards. It wouldn't boot from the CD, so I had to create a boot floppy that would be able to mount the CD so I could get the thing rolling. Because my Dell desktop case has never fit right since the first time I ever removed it and pushes on the floppy button too much for a disk to load, I had to move my big monitor, pop the Dell case all to create a boot floppy. Once that was done, I was able to backtrack enough to get the CD mounted and the setup program rolling. What a pain in the ass, though. Whilst at the used computer store Microseconds in Sandy Springs to get the Win95, I also bought a cheap soundcard (wish I had thought to buy a cheap NIC then), some cheap speakers, and a few goodies for myself like some USB hubs so I don't have to crawl behind computers to plug and unplug things.
